A technological partnership to boost industrial precision metrology from the Basque Country
The German company ZEISS and the Tekniker technology centre inaugurated the ZEISS Quality Excellence Centre in Eibar this morning. Physically located in Tekniker’s metrology laboratory, this new unit will offer advanced measurement, calibration and quality control systems to facilitate a transition towards zero-defect production.

This morning, the German company ZEISS, a leader in the area of multi-dimensional metrology solutions, and the Tekniker technology centre, a member of the Basque Research and Technology Alliance (BRTA), presented the ZEISS Quality Centre (QEC) in Eibar (Gipuzkoa). This new unit has been set up to offer the industry an extensive range of advanced measurement, calibration, advisory and quality control services applicable to production systems.
The inauguration ceremony took place this morning at Tekniker’s dimensional metrology laboratory which is where all the organisation’s measuring technologies are located. The event was attended, among others, by Anita Sonnenfroh, director of ZEISS Iberia; Juven Mollá, director of IQS Iberia; Jon Mabe, the market manager at Tekniker and Gorka Kortaberria, director of Industrial Metrology. During the event, presentations described the capabilities the new system can offer and listed the equipment that has been specifically designed to meet highly demanding requirements associated with the automotive or aeronautical sector.
Juven Mollá, representing ZEISS, underscored that “we have not only brought our cutting-edge metrology technology to Tekniker, but also our most advanced equipment to guarantee maximum precision and reliability for industrial processes. We will combine our experience in the field of metrology to ensure that all process stages meet the highest quality standards.
The new unit focused on the science of industrial measurement features four cutting-edge ZEISS machines equipped with several capabilities and techniques to perform complex measuring operations on free geometries, special materials and high precision components. Moreover, training courses provided by both organisations and third parties will be intensified to ensure that all technologies are applied correctly to achieve maximum levels of performance.
Gorka Kortaberria, remarks that “this collaboration will allow us to access ZEISS equipment and technologies with a view to extending our capabilities and developing wide-reaching industrial measurement solutions”.
Consequently, the unit will serve to reinforce a commitment already shared by ZEISS and Tekniker focused on technological innovation and continuous improvements to implement highly accurate production processes and transition towards zero-defect manufacturing.
