Materials and surfaces performance
The study of behaviour in use of materials and surfaces is a horizontal technology applicable to a wide variety of elements, components and systems, from virtually all industrial sectors. It includes the diagnoses of mechanisms and the causes of faults such as fractures, abnormal wear or corrosion, which occur during the service life of elements and components.
The diagnoses of mechanisms and the causes of faults during the service life of elements and components are noteworthy among the activities associated with this technology. Laboratory tests are also performed, evaluating the strength of materials and surfaces, either under standard conditions or conditions of use. Furthermore, TEKNIKER offers advice on behaviour in use of materials and surfaces for individual cases that arise for the customer, helping in the search for solutions and proposing alternatives so that the faults detected are not repeated.
The causes of failure in the behaviour in use of elements and components tend to be somewhat varied: fractures, abnormal wear, corrosion, etc. In the area of corrosion testing, TEKNIKER has a complete range of climatic test chambers - condensation, salt fog, stress corrosion and thermostatic baths for immersion trials and with ultraviolet radiation. They are also refining new X-ray diffraction and electron diffraction techniques to further develop fault diagnosis due to corrosion.
