Selective laser surface hardening for stamping dies
IK4-TEKNIKER applies a selective laser surface hardening process to increase wear resistance.
Stamping dies are fundamental tools to manufacture high-precision parts, as they allow raw materials to be transformed into elaborate components via mass production.
Stamping processes, however, must withstand high loads that generate wear in certain areas and produce parts that are not properly shaped and do not meet design standards.
Hardening based on the laser technology is a heat treatment that is usually carried out on the surface of steel components and castings to significantly enhance their durability.
It is in this context that IK4-TEKNIKER has applied the selective laser surface hardening process to reinforce wear resistance in certain areas of stamping dies.
The process has been carried out in a robotised cell in which the hardening system has been fitted with a laser temperature power control to maintain an even temperature throughout the surface of the material throughout the treatment itself.
When applied, this process provides selective hardening for the critical areas of a die to increase wear resistance during production; minimal deformations in the region treated and up to 1.5 mm of layer hardening depth.
This process falls within the IK4-TEKNIKER Laser for Manufacturing Lab offer.
