Tekniker presents innovations related to advanced materials at the European Coatings Show 2025
Tekniker, the Basque technology centre, will present its technological offering focused on enhancing the resistance, durability and efficiency of materials at the European Coatings Show in Germany.

Developing new materials is a fundamental pillar for further progress to be made in industrial sectors such as the automotive business, aeronautics, consumer electronics, infrastructures or health. Research and innovation are not only essential to improve additives, coatings, resins, paint and ink but also to optimise processes, increase efficiency and reduce environmental impacts.
It is within this context that Tekniker, the Basque technology centre and member of the Basque Research and Technology Alliance (BRTA) will showcase its most recent developments at the European Coatings Show 2025 on additives, coatings, resins, paint and ink and show how they are characterised.
From March 25 - 27, and from its exhibition space located on stand 3A - 534 at the Nuremberg Exhibition Centre, the technology centre will display an assortment of its technological offering aimed at improving the resistance, durability and efficiency of materials.
Cutting-edge materials incorporating diverse functionalities
One of Tekniker’s capabilities is focused on synthesising an extensive range of additives and on providing materials with functionalities such as, among other options, anti-microbial, anti-corrosion or self-repairing properties.
In the course of the European Coatings Show 2025, the technology centre will display a demonstrator of the research work carried out in the area of smart nanoparticles within the framework of the RELIANCE project led by Tekniker with funding from the EU Horizon programme. This initiative, scheduled to end in 2026, will address the challenge of finding an alternative solution that is safer, more efficient, and profitable that can be used to replace the use of traditional biocides on coatings to remove bacteria, fungi or viruses.
The technology centre will also present a number of in-house capabilities geared towards developing thermally stable resins that can be recycled, reprocessed and repaired in order to replace traditional thermostable resins. Along these lines, Tekniker is currently involved in a European project called EOLIAN, also funded by the European Union, whose ultimate goal is to develop recyclable blades for wind turbine generators characterised by enhanced durability and ease of maintenance. To support this project, Tekniker is also contributing with its ink printing and design capabilities.
During the European forum and as part of the work to be carried out under this project, Tekniker will present a composite material equipped with sensors that detect ice and facilitate maintenance actions during periods of extreme cold.
Tekniker’s offering at the fair will also include the organisation’s know how associated with coatings for which purpose a paint demonstrator will be used that features improved properties to prevent the adherence of ice to WTG blades. Details will also be given on the organisation’s experience with the sol-gel technology.
Tekniker researchers Amaia Martínez Goitandia and Miren Blanco explain that “thanks to the sol-gel technology we can now design coatings that match the desired characteristics. Other salient features, compared to traditional methods, are lower levels of power consumption, lower processing temperatures coupled with a higher degree of homogeneity and uniformity in the resulting chemical composition, yet another cost-reducing feature”.
The European Coatings Show is a major trade fair for the coatings industry that is organised by two companies: Vincentz Network and NürnbergMesse. From March 25 – 27, the event will bring together manufacturers, distributors and professionals in Germany to explore the most recent developments reported with regard to paint, varnish, adhesives and chemical products and many other issues.
